Services for Ada Mechling, 87, were Saturday, May 22, at 2 p.m. at the Congregational Church, Amery, with the Rev Barry Schaefer officiating.

Soloist was Tom Carlson accompanied by Chris Lindee.

Casket bearers were Herb Johnson, Duane Riley, Elmer Nielsen, Jerry Carlson, Paul Miller and Laverne Petersen.

Interment was at Balsam Lutheran Cemetery with the Williamson Funeral Home of Amery in charge.

Ada Marie Mechling was born on Aug. 9, 1905, in Spooner, the daughter of John and Dimmie Bruner. She was baptized in the Christian faith and attended school through the eighth grade. She went on later to cosmetology school and obtained her operator's license. She worked as a beauty operator in the twin cities.

In 1929, she was married to Floyd Johnson and three children were born. He died at a young age.

In 1946, she moved to Amery.

On March 8, 1947, she was married to Harold Mechling. He operated a bait shop and service station and she worked as a cook at the Amery Hospital.

She was a volunteer with the Gray Ladies in Amery and a member of the Congregational Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd Johnson; husband, Harold Mechling; six sisters and four brothers and a son, Timothy Mechling. (Amery Free Press, Amery, WI, May 25, 1993)
