Stephen Edward Beck

Stephen Edward Beck, youngest son of Stephen C. and Emma Beck, was born on a farm northwest of Ong, Nebraska, on March 24, 1877, and departed this life in a hospital in Oklahoma on October 1, 1946, at the age of 69 years, six months and seven days.

He grew to manhood in the Ong community.

On October 20, 1898, he was united in marriage to Sadie Peterson and moved onto a farm northeast of Edgar where they lived until 1930 when they moved to Edgar due to Mrs. Beck's health. She preceded him to the Great Beyond August 28, 1935.

To this union were born five children, Mrs. Lester Everett of Ferndale, Washington; Mrs. Harry Brooks of Juniata, Nebraska; Elmer Beck of Nelson, Nebraska; Glen Beck of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Harold Beck of Edgar, Nebraska.

After her passing he moved to Alva, Oklahoma, where he resided until October, 1944, when he came back to live with his children. In March, 1946, he returned there until his passing away.

He is survived by his five children, 14 grandchildren, one great grandchild, two sisters, Mrs. Walter Woodhead of Ceres, California and Mrs. Ross Phelps of San Francisco, California, and two brothers. Other relatives and a host of friends also survive.

One sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at the Edgar Methodist church (sic), Friday, October 4, 1946, with Rev. S. W. Longacre in charge.

Mrs. E. J. Mort and M. E. Cushing sang "The Old Rugged Cross," "Going Down the Valley" and "Sweet Bye and Bye." Mrs. Lydia Phelps was at the piano.
