The funeral for Harold E Beck will be today (Thursday) at 10 a.m., the Urbauer-Williams Funeral Home Chapel, Edgar. He died Monday at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings, at the age of 82 years and 4 months.
The son of Stephen and Sadie Peterson Beck, he was born May 10, 1908 on the family farm four miles northeast of Edgar.
As a young boy, he attended Centennial rural grade school through the eighth grade and graduated from Edgar High School.
Sept 19, 1941, he married Lovena Ahrens at Clay Center. This union was blessed with the birth of two sons and two daughters.
Beck lived his entire life in the Edgar community farming and doing carpentry work.
He had been active in the community, being a past member of the Edgar Lions Firefighters and had served Clay County as a supervisor for 16 years, beginning in 1963.
Survivors are his wife, Lovena; sons Darrell Beck and Wayne Beck of Edgar; daughters, Mrs Tim Greuter (Linda) of Houston, Texas and Carol Bennett of Rangely, Colo; grandchildren, Kevin, David and Craig Beck, Bryan, Brent, Brad and Brooke Greuter, Carrie, Travis and Laura Beck, Nadine Bennett and Jason Harris; great grandchildren Kathy and Joshua Beck; Sara Beck and Nathan Doll; sister Gladys Brooks of Juniata; and many other relatives.
The Rev Stuart Barnes Jamieson was the officiant. Interment was in Edgar Cemetery.
