Elizabeth Hannah/Jane Niles was born in 1841 in Leon, Cattaraugus County, New York, the daughter of John S. Niles and Elizabeth Lilly. She was married July 1860 in Dane County, Wisconsin to James Monroe Ingalls. (James M. Ingalls was a Lieutenant-Colonel in the army, was an artillary officer & his ballistic tables were used for over 100 years). Elizabeth had at least two children: Arthur Ingalls, who was born in Wisconsin in 1861 and who died three days after his mother; and Hilda Ingalls, who was born in 1868 in Georgia, and married Joel Randall Burrow and lived in Smith Center, Kansas. Elizabeth died of yellow fever 28 July 1875.
