Son of Hardin (or Harden) C. Perkins and Catherine Dorsey. Some records give his birth year as 1835 and some as 1836. Some descendants list his middle name as Manson and some as Mason.

He married (1) Mary Eliza Crumpler May 31, 1855 in Smith Co., Texas (source: Texas Marriage Collection). Their child was Robert J. who died young.

He married (2) Flora Jane Davis May 19, 1868 in Angelina Co., Texas (source: Texas Marriage Collection). No issue.

He married (3) Martha Ann "Mattie" Davis (sister of Flora Jane Davis) Feb. 20, 1869 in Angelina Co., Texas (source: Texas Marriage Collection). Their children were William Hardin, Giles Crain, Eddie Abney, and Flora Jane.

He married (4) Mary Elizabeth "Mollie" Otis Jul. 25, 1878 in Angelina Co., Texas (source: Texas Marriage Collection). Their children were Charles Lee, Mae Emma, Lecy Helon (spelling uncertain), Beulah Edell, John Lester, Virginia Dora, Ross Sullivan, Grady Lawrence, Loya Brian (or Bryan), and Wilma Lois.
