Funeral services for Giles C. Perkins, 86, of Redland, were scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Gipson Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ed. M. Mathison officiating. Interment was scheduled in the Walker Cemetery with graveside services under the auspices of the Lufkin Masonic Lodge.

Mr. Perkins died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon at his residence.

He was a pioneer of this county, having been born in Angelina County on April 15, 1872. He was married to Miss Annie Dees at Clawson on February 26, 1896, and they had just celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.

He was a pioneer school teacher having taught in most of the schools in this county and in many other area schools, including schools at Dodge, Leggett and Woden. He was superintendent of a number of East Texas schools. He was a graduate of Sam Houston Normal College at Huntsville. He was a member of the Redland Methodist Church and of Lufkin Masonic Lodge No. 669.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Annie Dees Perkins; sons, Cody Perkins and Coy Perkins; daughters, Mrs. Bessie Rice and Mrs. Mae Johnston; brothers, Charlie Perkins, Ross Perkins and Loy Perkins; sisters, Mrs. Flora Fenley, Mrs. Beulah Hicks, Mrs. Virgie McCall and Mrs. Wilma Stein; 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
