THE MURULLA RAIL DISASTER
Twenty-seven people lost their lives and 42 injured as a result of a midnight train collision in the Upper Hunter Valley on Sept. 13, 1926 near Murrurundi, New South Wales. Breaking away from a goods train at Murulla, four cars laden with wool dashed backwards down a gradient and crashed into the oncoming north-west mail train from Moree to Sydney. Many of the passengers were children returning to school from holiday. Sometimes referred to as the Blandford railway accident, as the crash occurred before the community of Brandford,in an area bordered by both Brandford and Murulla districts.

Daughter of James Pollock and Ellen Pollock.

Mother of John Errol "Jack" Walker.

She entered the Scott Memorial Hospital, Scone, the morning after the crash and never left.

LATE MRS. WALKER.
Murulla Smash Victim
The funeral of Mrs. Helen Walker, the twenty-seventh victim of the Murulla railway smash, took place this afternoon from Wood, Coffill's mortuary. The chief mourners were Mr. James Pollock, father, of the deceased, and her brothers and sisters. Before the funeral the Rev. O. C. J. Van held a short service. "The dear one you mourn," he said, "died under tragic circumstances, in a manner that shook Australia with horror and later tilled human hearts with Sympathy." Later Mr. Van conducted the service at Sandgate. where Mrs. Walker was buried with her six-year-old son, who was killed in the Murulla accident. Mrs. Walker suffered from a fractured leg and concussion. On Wednesday last she contracted pneumonia, which hastened her death.
