J.W. “Bill” Blatter Blair Pharmacist Died Here Monday
J.W. Blatter, a veteran pharmacist and resident of Blair for 45 years, died at Memorial Community Hospital last Monday, March 8th. He was 80 years of age having been born at Maryville, Missouri, January 22, 1891.
He studied pharmacy in Des Moines and became a registered Pharmacist 55 years ago, and ten years later he came to Blair and this has been his home since that time.
His first work in Blair was for the late John Christensen who operated a drug store. Later he bought the store and ran it for himself. During the depression years he gave up the store and became a pharmacist for Francis Samson. For a number of years he has been a relief pharmacist for the Anderson Pharmacy.
He was married to Anna Mae Monke, the daughter of a prominent Fontanelle, Nebraska family. Mrs. Blatter died in 1958. Since that time he has lived alone in his home at 2307 Washington Street.
He was the father of eight children (three sons and five daughters), all of whom survive his death; there are 21 grandchildren.
Funeral services are being held this Thursday morning at the Bendorf Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery.
