A sad drowning accident occurred at Eakle's Mills on Saturday when PATRICK KEARNEY, the 16 month old son of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Reel, fell into a rainbarrel containing about two feet of water and drowned with no one to help. One of the older children had taken a bucket of water from the barrel by getting on a chair. The chair was left by the side of the barrel, and the child was prompted to investigate the barrel and its contents. Climbing up on the chair he leaned over to look at the water over balanced and fell in. He was missed by his mother, but as the father often took the child with him to the shop when he had some work to do there, no one was alarmed. The father in the course of half an hour came in without the child and search was at once instituted. In a few minutes the father found the missing child in the rain barrel.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. B.R. Carnahan, at the home of the parents on Sunday evening at 4 o''clock, after which the body was taken to Sharpsburg and interred in Mountain View Cemetery.
