Frantiska "Frances"Svestka was born October 22, 1898 in the small town of Hluboká in the Pardubický district of Eastern Bohemia. Her parents were Vaclav "James" Svestka and Julia Rican. In 1905, her father left for America. Her mother, Julia, brothers, Joseph and Vaclav, and she followed, arriving in New York on May 30, 1906, on the ship Kronprinz Wilhelm.

The following year, 1907, Julia died, and Julia's sister, Antonia, came from Bohemia to care for the children and ended up marrying James, Sr.

Frances married Charles Hosticka on July 7, 1917 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Charles was a carpenter in Cleveland. They had two sons, Charles and James.

Frances died from tuberculosis on November 30, 1921. She is buried in West Park Cemetery, Cleveland.

Survivors: her husband, Charles; sons, Charles and James; brother Joseph Plumb; half-brothers, Ladd, Frank, James and William Svestka; and four half-sisters: Barbara (John) Prochaska, Georgia (Steve) Benedick, Lillian (Robert) Vandre, and Ann (Richard) Leggett.
