Laddie Svestka, age 90, of Palmyra, died Saturday, June 15, 2002 at Lenawee Medical Care Facility. He was born January 15, 1912 in Saginaw, Mi., to Vaclav and Antonette (Antonia) Richan (Rican) Svestka. On November 28, 1935 he married Mary Louise Horak at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Deerfield and she survives. Laddie retired in 1977 as a boiler room manager from the Simplex Paper Company. He was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Blissfield.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons: Joseph Svestka and his wife, Carol of Cleveland, Ohio; Ronald Svestka of Blissfield and his wife Sharon of Blissfield; Gerald Svestka of Palmyra and Raymond Svestka and his wife, Rose of Susquehanna, PA; one daughter, Ellen Gust and her husband, Robert of Palmyra; two brothers, Frank Svestka of Indiana and William Svestka of Sarasota, FL; one sister Ann Leggett of Bradenton, FL: seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James, and three sisters, Barbara Prochaska, Georgia Benedict and Lillian VanDre.

At Laddie's request, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass for Laddie will be offered on Wednesday, June 19, 2002 at 9 AM at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church with Fr. Vincent Van Doan as celebrant. Internment of cremains will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery in Deerfield. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions mayb be made to St. Peter's Heritage Fund.
