Found in The State 21 March 1940: Mrs. Belle Davis Lachicotte, 77, widow of P. H. Lachicotte, died at her residence, 1512 Laurel street, at 7:15 yesterday evening. She had not been in robust health for some time, but was not taken seriously ill until about ten days ago. Mrs. Lachicotte was the daughter of Capt. Edmund Davis of the Confederate army, and his wife, Eliza J. Tradewell Davis. She was born June 10, 1863, in Columbia, where both of her parents were born, and where both sides of the family have lived for several generations, but of English descent from the duchy of Kent. In her girlhood, Mrs. Lachicotte was one of the belles of Columbia, noted for beauty and social graces. She was educated in private schools and at Miss Ellen Elmore's Finishing School for Young Ladies. She married P. H. Lachicotte, the founder of Lachicotte's Jewelry store. She was a devoted wife and mother and was a zealous member of the Washington Street Methodist church, taking especial interest in the Missionary society of that church. She was an attentive and kindly neighbor, and gave her life to the service of others. She is the last of a family of seven children, three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by three children, Louis Hope Lachicotte and Misses Erminee and May Lachicotte, all of Columbia, and by a number of nieces and nephews. One niece, Mrs. Charles W. Parker (Minnie Williamson of Ahoske, N.C.) was with her at the time of her death. The funeral services will be at the residence, 1512 Laurel street at 4 o'clock this afternoon, and will be conducted by her former pastor, the Rev. A. L. Gunter and her present pastor, the Rev. J. Owen Smith of Washington Street Methodist church. The interment will be in Elmwood cemetery.
