Second son of Rev John Eustace GILES by his third wife, Ellen BLAKE formerly BARNETT; Cambridge University, B.A.; emigrated to N.S.W., 1881; Master at Church Grammar School, Launceston, 1884-85; Mathematics Master, Sydney Grammar School, and later Head of the Junior School; he died at Darlinghurst.
He was married at Burwood, N.S.W., 14 April 1884, to Ann Minna MACKELLAR, of Braidwood; she died on 3 June 1946, at her daughter's residence in Markyate, Hertfordshire, aged 90 [Registered at Hemel Hempstead, June quarter, Volume 3a, Page 1206].
They had issue:
1. John MacKellar GILES, born at Launceston, Tasmania, 25 January 1885; Journalist; he died at Manly, N.S.W., 25 May 1972.
2. Arthur MacKellar GILES, born at Waverley, N.S.W., 31 October 1892; he was killed at Lone Pine, Gallipoli, 6 August 1915, aged 22.
3. Marjory MacKellar GILES, born at Burwood, 13 July 1895; she died at Hatfield, Hertfordshire, 6 July 1986; she was married firstly, at Port Said, Egypt, 13 March 1917, to her second cousin, John Mackellar CHISHOLM - they were divorced in 1929; they had issue:
a. John Henry CHISHOLM, born Sydney, 1918; went to England; Squadron Leader, 157 Squadron, R.A.F.; killed in action over Europe, 16 September 1944.
b. Wallace Mackellar CHISHOLM, born Sydney, 1919; Indian Army, 1940, to be 2nd Lieutenant.
Marjory was married secondly, in Adelaide, 29 June 1932, to Norman Henry PRENDERGAST, Lt-Col, Indian Army; they lived in India, and eventually retired to Markyate, Hertfordshire (there in 1946); she died at Hatfield, Hertfordshire, July 1986.
