Second son of Arthur GILES and Ann Minna MacKELLAR; Sydney Grammar School; Analytical Chemist, Colonial Sugar Company, Sydney; enlisted on 27 August 1914, in the 4th Battalion (1st Infantry Brigade), A.I.F.; 2nd Lieutenant, 13 September 1914; embarked at Sydney on HMAT A14 Euripides, 20 October 1914; served in Egypt and on the Gallipoli Peninsula; Lieutenant, 25 April 1915; killed in action during the Lone Pine attack, some time between the 6th and 8th of August 1915; said to have been buried at Brown's Dip Cemetery, and later (in 1922-23) re-interred at Lone Pine Cemetery (due to instability at the former site).
