Obituary

Mrs. Jane Helsel died July 31 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Loretta Baumgardner, near New Enterprise. She was born Sept. 30, 1850, in that vicinity, a daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Reffner, and was one of 13 children. Her husband, who was John Helsel, preceded her in death. Two daughters and a son survive, Mrs. Rufus Koontz of Yellow Creek, David Helsel of East Freedom and the daughter above mentioned. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday morning at the Holsinger Church of the Brethren and interment made in the adjoining cemetery.

MRS. JANE HELSEL

Mrs. Jane Helsel, an aged resident of the New Enterprise community, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Loretta Baumgardner of near New Enterprise Saturday July 31, at 2 p.m., death being attributed to diseases incident to her advanced age.

Mrs. Helsel was born near New Enterprise on Sept. 30, 1850, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Reffner, and was united in marriage with John W. Helsel, who died in 1919. They resided near New Enterprise during his life, and later Mrs. Helsel remained in the old home until about seven years ago, since which she divided her time among the homes of her children. She was a member of the Church of God.

Surviving are two daughters and one son, Mrs. Baumgardner, at whose home she died, Mrs. Rufus Koontz of Yellow Creek, and David I. Helsel of East Freedom. Also 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one great-great-grandchild. One brother, Wesley Reffner of Roaring Spring, remains of their father's family of thirteen children.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Holsinger Church of the Brethren, conducted by Rev. Wilfred N. Staufer. Interment was made in the cemetery at the church.
