Mr. Helsel was born in Freedom township, Blair County. Mr. Helsel was united in marriage to Jane Reffner on September 25, 1869. Seven children were born to this union, three of whom preceded him to the great beyond. He is survived by his wife, one son and three daughters: Irvin D., of Braddock; Mrs. Rufus Koontz, of Yellow Creek; Mrs. Loretta Frederick, of Altoona, and Carrie at home. Also the following brothers and sisters: David, of Hollidaysburg; Albert, of Well's Tannery; Mrs. Mary McIntyre, of Hollidaysburg; Mrs. George Kerns, Mrs. Blanche Rodkey and Mrs. Margaret Glassgow, all of Altoona, and twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mr. Helsel engaged in farming all his life. He was a member of Washington Camp No. 499 P.O.S. of A. at Salemville.
