The son of John George & Mary Ellen (Kanaga) Bobb, he married Mary Jane Line in 1859 and fathered Clarence R. (b. 06/18/60), John Elmer (b. 08/22/63), Keller (b. @1866), Charles M. (b. 05/26/68), and Alfred C. (b. @1872). In 1860, he was a laborer living with his family in Silver Spring Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, and later worked as a clerk.


A Civil War veteran, he was drafted by Pennsylvania at the stated age of twenty-four in Carlisle October 16, 1862, and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg November 1 as a private with Co. A, 158th Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"). In early April 1863, he was left behind sick at Washington, North Carolina, and did not return to the regiment until August 11. He honorably discharged with his company August 12, 1863.


Alfred A. Bobb was a member of Carlisle's Colwell Post No. 201, G.A.R. He was one of two Civil War veterans by that name from Cumberland County, the other serving with the 49th Pennsylvania Infantry.
