Mrs. Ophelia McCachren Sides, 85, of Concord, formerly of Charlotte, died July 27, 1991, at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital in Concord. Funeral is 3 p.m. today at Harry and Bryant Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sharon Memorial Park. Visitation is 2 to 3 p.m. today.

Mrs. Sides, a Charlotte native, was a homemaker and a Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company retiree after 35 years of service. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and of Ann Street United Methodist Church in Concord.

Survivors are her husband, Jernie; sons, Max Sides of Harrisburg, Ronald Sides; daughters, Mrs. Betty McCachern of Denver, N.C., Mrs. Patricia Propst of Concord, Mrs. Deane Stokes of Concord; brothers, David McCachren of Knoxville, Tenn., James McCachren of Gainesville, Fla., William McCachren of Raleigh, Jonathan McCachren, George McCachren; sisters, Mrs. Betty Huey of Rock Hill, Miss Winnie McCachren; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
