"His father, the late John C. Murchie, came to California from St. Stephens in 1849, being one of California's earliest pioneers, and his brother, the late John Murchie, arrived in this state in 1852. It was in 1855 that the deceased and other members of the family made the journey to California coming via the Isthmus of Panama. They arrived in San Francisco on Thanksgiving Day of that year and it was shortly afterwards that Mr. Murchie came to this city to take up his residence."
