Skiffington Thompson Murchie was the son of John Campbell Murchie and Catherine Craig who settled in Nevada City, California and were miners. Skiff and his wife Emma (Kibbe) were listed in 1900 in San Francisco California, with Skiff age 55, Emma age 51, son Herbert H. age 24, daughter Eva Gertrude age 23, son Stanley K. age 21 and George R. age 19.

After Skiff's death in 1910, his widow Emma was listed in Oakland, Alameda Co., California age 55 living with her daughter Eva G. Wynman and her husband Christian. Also living with them was Stanley K. Murchie age 22.

NEVADA CITY (Nevada County)- July 12, 1910- Skiff T. Murchie, a former well known resident of this city, died at San Francisco yesterday morning from rheumatism of the heart. He was one of the early owners of the Murchie Mine and followed mining most of his life. He leaves a wife and one daughter and two sons at San Francisco, besides two brothers here, another at Los Angeles, two sisters at Kansas City MO; one sister at St. Stephen, New Brunswick, and another at Topeka, Kansas. Deceased was 69 years and 7 months and was born at St. Stephen, New Brunswick. The funeral will take place at San Francisco.
