OBITUARY
Wells

George R. Wells was born in Wayne County, Illinois, December 11, 1827, and came with his parents Lucius and Eunice Wells, to Rock Island County in 1822 and settled in Hampton, where his boyhood days and life has been spent.

He was married in 1856 to Julia A. Posten and twelve children were born to them, four of whom are living - Edward of Porterville, S.A. of Bullalo, Iowa, Eunice Arrenschield of Watertown and Sophia Arbrecht of California. His wife died in the fall of 1871. Mr. Wells again married in 1873, Hanna Buffum, who died in 1886. Four children were born, two of whom live now- Hiram of Porterville and Mrs. Hannah Norton of Moline. He was again married in 1888 to Mrs. Sarah Rhode, who is still living. He has eighteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, three brothers and three sisters. His sisters are Mrs. Nancy Bailey of Hampton, Mrs. Mary Fitch of Hampton and Mrs. Emily McGreagor of Cedar Rapids. The brothers are Lucius, Council Bluffs; Albert, Omaha; Henry, Hamlin, Iowa. There are many other relatives and friends.

His third wife survives him. She was in Chicago at the time of his death but departed as soon as she received the dispatch and was here Monday at the funeral and is still here. There never was any separation or trouble of any sort, as published in The Mail on Tuesday.

STEPHEN WELLS


George Rinnah Wells, oldest son of Lucius Wells, was born in Wayne county, IL., Dec. 11, 1827, having come here with his parents in 1832. When old enough, he helped his father in the sawmill and on the farm. He was married to Julia Ann Poston. They were the parents of five children.

Rinnah enlistment for the Civil War on 6 Apr 1862. His rank at enlistment was private. He served Illinois. He enlisted in Company H, Illinois 69th Infantry Regiment on 14 Jun 1862. He mustered out on 27 Sep 1862.

Mr. Wells was a justice of the peace and supervisor of Hampton township. He was also village president. He, with Wm. H. Pettangill, were the contractors and builders of all the wood and frame work of the old two-story portion of the present school building in Hampton.
