Sophia Wells married Lucius Danforth in 1844 and had daughter Hellen in 1845.

• 1847, Wagon Train roster includes Joseph, Rosalinda, Manley, his wife, Joseph's son Lucius, his wife Sophia, their daughter Hellen, Joseph's daughter, Sarah.
• 1848, Aug. 8, Joseph, Manley, Lucius and Elias J. Crandall filed land claims in Yamhill Co.
• 1849 Lucius, Sophia & Hellen returned to Rock Island Co., Ill.; second daughter, Edith was born in June 1850; Lucius returned to Oregon in Sept. 1852 but Sophia and the girls did not go with him.
• 1850 Census of Illinois, Rock Island Co., Oct. 10, 1850 has Lucius (age 29), b. in Illinois, physician, wife Sophia A. Danforth (age 24) b. Illinois with children, Helen L. age 4 and Edith E. age 4 months. LDS family search records cite the three children Helen, Eunice and Edith born to Lucius and Sophia A. Danforth between 1845 and 1849.
• 1855 - The Oregon State Archives lists a divorce for Lucius Danforth and a Sophia A. Danforth Dec. 31, 1855 in Marion County, Case #0248. Apparently Mrs. Sophia A. Danforth refused to return with Lucius to the Oregon Territory in 1852. The divorce cites desertion on her part!! She was given custody and guardianship of the infant children. Oregon was not yet a state at this time and is referred to as Territory.
