Elmer Smoker, 76, of 61 Evergreen St.,
Intercourse, died Friday at his home.
He had been under the care of a physician,
A retired farmer and carpenter and a member
of Millwood Mennonite church, he was born in
Gordonville, a son of the late Isaac and
Hannah Zook Smoker.
In addition to his widow, Barbara Augsburger
Smoker, he is survived by eight daughters:
Verna, Martha, and Esther Smoker, all at
home; Mary Ann, wife, of Melvin Kauffman,
Atglen R1; Ellen Mae, wife of Harold Ranck,
Cochranville R2; Erma, wife of Frank Kennel,
Kinzers R1; Mildred, wife of Glenn Kunkle,
Ronks R1; and Rhoda, wife of Raymond
Harnish, Oxford R3; and a son, Lester, Gap RI.
Also surviving are 24 grandchildren;
two brothers, Samuel Z.,Gap R1; and Isaac
Z.,Intercourse;and three sisters: Suvilla
Kauffman, Kinzers RD; Barbara, wife of Eli Kauffman, Denver;and Malinda, wife of Peter Miller, Paradise.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m.Monday in the Ridgeview Mennonite Church, Intercourse,with the Rev. Aaron Kauffman, the Rev. Mahlon Glick and the Rev. Noah Hershey officiating.Interment followed in the Millwood Mennonite Cemetery.
