Discrepancy re date of birth: Note that one or more sources list Lewis' date of birth as 24 Nov 1830, and the 1900 Federal Census says he was born Nov 1830 (supported by the fact that he was already age 20 in the 1850 census and already age 30 in the 1860 census and already age 80 in the 1910 census), but the death certificate says he was born 24 Nov 1831, and the tombstone says he was born in 1832.

"[His] death certificate . . . says he was born 24 Nov 1831 and died 30 Mar 1913 in Center twp, Grant County. Place of burial, Forrest Indiana on 2 Apr 1913. The U. S. Burial Registers, Military Posts and National Cemeteries has this: Sims Lewis, CC. G, Regiment 89 Ind Inf, Date of Death Mch 30-1913, Section -, Row -, Number -, Remarks: Remains taken to Forrest_ Ind, Mch 31-13 for interment."
