He served in the 89th Regiment, Indiana Volunteer Infantry, and he died of "Army disease" while at home.

Clinton County Cemeteries, vol. III, published (typewritten) by Gem City Genealogical Shoppe in Frankfort, IN, (undated, but possibly from the 1970s), Compiled by Mrs. Joan Bohm Speer and Mrs. Jeanine Warren, p. 42, lists the following transcription from Sims Cemetery:

"SIMS, David C., Member of Co G 8th Reg Ind Vol in the service of the U.S., d. Jan 15, 1863 34y 6m 6d."

Wife: Susan J. Lehman, whom he married 13 Feb 1859 in Clinton Co, IN. They had one son who died "in youth," and Susan married (2nd) Milton Hanson.
He served in the 89th Regiment, Indiana Volunteer Infantry, and he died of "Army disease" while at home.
