Samuel Robert Barnes was the son of Samuel H Barnes and Sarah " Sallie " H Howell.

He married Miss Jane R. Redman on 21 Jan 1861 in Williamson County, TN; record is in Tennessee, State Marriages, 1780-2002. Her last name varies from Redman/Redmon/ to Redmond. She also often used the nickname of Jennie.

They had 13 known children. See Jane Jennie Rebecca Redmond Barnes' memorial bio for listing of their known children.

Samuel was in the grocery business from 1873-1900 in Nashville at 537 Main Street**. He started out farming then grocery as did several of his son's passing it on to some of their children.

For Genealogy Purposes: * Note! There was another Samuel Robert Barnes living in Williamson County, Tennessee, he died 1908 in Williamson County, TN, and he was also married in Williamson County, TN to Mary Barnes. This Samuel Robert Barnes, IS NOT the same person.

Samuel Robert Barnes son , Andrew Johnson Barnes (please note this name repeats in four generations, gets complex) was the informant on his father's TN 1900 Death Certificate and listed his burial in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee at Spring Hill Cemetery. While Samuel Robert Barnes or his son bought a burial plot, under the name of Samuel Robert Barnes name at Spring Hill in 1899, Samuel is buried by son's, and wife in Jackson, Madison County, Tennessee at Hollywood Cemetery., as evident here in this family burial plot.
