Mary Ellen Jones Arndt
Mary Ellen Jones Arndt was born within the Choctaw Nation at Skullyville, Indian Territory. Her parents were Benjamin Franklin Jones, a Choctaw and Jennie C. Faulkner Jones, a Cherokee. Mary Ellen, her sisters, Aran & Frances moved to Tobucksy County, Indian Territory, prior to the birth of one son, Benjamin Franklin, Jr. The stories passed down through the family were that her father was the Sheriff of Tobucksy County, Indian Territory. He was killed over a political dispute September 13, 1876 at what is now North McAlester. He was buried at North McAlester Cemetery. Mary Ellen and William Arndt married December 19, 1890. They had five sons: Samuel F., William F., Fred C., Joseph W., and Jerome Gordon Arndt. They also had three daughters: Myrtle, Fannie J, and Aran Lee Arndt. Mary Ellen and her children were enrolled on the Choctaw Roll. Allotment patent was filed on March 24, 1906. Mary Ellen's allotment is now Blue Community. Mary Ellen and William built a log cabin and had a small store. The store was a great asset to the community. They later built a large five-bedroom home with a sleeping porch the length of the house. They had a large cistern and cellar; their home was always opened to teachers. In the late 1800's she buried her baby among the Oaks by what was believed to be an unmarked grave of a Civil War soldier. The headstones are marked. This is now Blue Cemetery where she and several family members are buried. With all the families moving in, the one room log school was overflowing. Two acres were given on the north side of the home place for a school, which was also used for a church and they also donated the land for the Blue Cemetery which at one time was known as the Arndt Cemetery. William and Mary Ellen lived in McAlester, Oklahoma at the time of their deaths.

The funeral service for Mrs. Mary E. Arndt, 87, of 406 West Jackson, a resident of Pittsburg County for the past 83 years, who died on December 20, at a local hospital following a brief illness, was held Wednesday December 26, at 1:30 p.m., at the Humphrey Chapel.
Rev. Walter Roach conducted the service. Interment was in the Blue Cemetery under the direction of the Humphrey Funeral Home.
Mrs. Arndt, who was born at Skullyville, Indian Territory on October 4, 1869, was a member of a pioneer Pittsburg County family who settled near Spiro soon after the War between the States. Mrs. Arndt moved with her parents to the Blue community in 1873, where they engaged in farming.
She was a member of the Holiness Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Charles William Arndt in 1943.
Mrs. Arndt is survived by some 96 direct descendents.
Survivors include five sons; Samuel F. Arndt, Tulsa; Charles Frederick Arndt, Houston, Texas; William F. Arndt, Pampa, Texas; Joseph W. Arndt, McAlester, and Jerome G. Arndt of Wedderburn, Oregon; a daughter, Mrs. Cully (Aran) Stevens of McAlester; 25 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and 15 great-great Grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jesse Fred Yoss, Charles Blevins, Ralph Tucker, Elmer Lorance, H. E. Hunter and Alton Parker.
