John Kiene
The body of John Kiene, 43, brother of the late L.L. Kiene, former sheriff of Shawnee county, who died Sunday in a Muskogee, Okla., hospital, was brought to Topeka and funeral services held here this afternoon from Penwell's chapel at 2 o'clock. Burial was made in Mt. Hope cemetery.
Kiene had been making his home in Tulsa, Okla., since leaving Topeka. He was born near Valencia, Kan., and was a graduate of Kansas State college at manhattan.
His widow and a son, of Tulsa; two sisters, Mrs. William Harris and Mrs. Ernest Longaker, both of Topeka; four brothers, Carl of Shreveport, La.; Albert, of Lawrence, Kan.; Arthur, of Kansas City, Kan., and Dr. Otto Kiene, Concordia, Kan.; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. L.L. Kiene, of Topeka, survive him.

According to the Cook County, Illinois, Marriage Index, John married Grace Gilkison on 15 Nov 1919 in Chicago.
His WWI Draft Registration record gives a birth date of 30 Dec 1892. He was residing in Ellis County, Kansas. He was stout, medium height, with blue eyes and light hair. He was a farm hand for Mr. Peter Johnson of Hays, Kansas. His previous military experience was two years as a cadet at Kansas State Agricultural college.
