Joseph Miller Dies at Home in Brillion
Former Maple Grove Chairman and Member of Assembly Passes Away
Joseph Miller, a well known resident of Brillion passed away at his home there Tuesday after a lingering illness, death being due to the infirmities of old age. Mr. Miller was 81 years of age and was born in Christofsgrund, Austria, on March 6th, 1847. At the age of nine years he came to this country with his mother and sister and settled near Oconto where he worked for several years. Later he made his home with his sister, Mrs. Herwig in Maple Grove until he was united in marriage with Miss Ottilia Bauer of Oconto. The young couple continued to make their home on a farm in Maple Grove for many years. Mr. Miller was chairman of the town of Maple Grove, fifty-two years ago at the age of twenty-nine years. Later he became a member of the assembly and also served as clerk of School District No. 4 for a number of years.
He was an active member of the Catholic Knight and Holy Name Societies and also held many offices in the church. Mr. Miller was a kind hearted man and was well liked by all who know him.
He is survived by four children, two sons and two daughters, Mrs. John Kleiber, Jr., and Miss Theresa Miller, John and Kosmos Miller, all of Brillion and one sister, Mrs. Frances Herwig of Cudahy, who is 91 years of age.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 9:30 from the St. Mary's Catholic church there, Rev. August Garthaus officiating. Interment will be at the Kason cemetery.
