Marcy Linus Gould, for over forty years a resident of Blanchardville, passed away at his home in this village January 10th 1915 aged 68 years, 4 months and 10 days after an illness of several months duration caused by a cancer.

The subject of this sketch was a native of New York state, where he was born Aug 31st, 1846 and came to Wisconsin with his parents when a child. They first resided in the town of Moscow, then moved to the farm east of the town, where he grew to manhood.

In 1874 he was united in marriage to Catharine Mill, only daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mill. Mr. Gould since that date has resided here. For a number of years was in business. He held the office of Justice of the Peace, deputy sheriff, constable and had the honor of being the first marshal after our village was incorporated. He was one of the charter members of the Blanchardville Fire Company and a most efficient and interested member up until a few years ago, when on account of age and declining health, he resigned and was unanimously made an honorary member of this organization. The company attended the last sad rites of the departed. Peter Olson, Chas. Blanchard, W. C. Uren, H. H. Marshall, Thomas Schindler and L. F. Walrack, firemen acted a pall bearers.

The deceased is survived by his wife and seven children, Ned of Wausau; Linus of Chicago; Mrs. A. J. (Cora) Striebel of Milwaukee; Mrs. T. S. (Rose) Ryan, Mrs. U. C. (Margaret) Amerpohl, George and Walter of Blanchardville. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Harriet Thompson who resides at Cascade, Montana.

The funeral was held at the M. E. church Wednesday afternoon conducted by Rev. N. J. Alderson, who preached a very comforting sermon. The remains were laid to rest in the Graceland Cemetery.

The family have the deepest sympathy of all in their irreparable loss.
