Funeral Services for Jennings Resident Held Today
Jennings, La., Dec. 30.--Funeral rites for L. G. Doherty, 78, who passed away at his home Tuesday morning after an illness of three months, was scheduled for this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Miguez Funeral Home, on Davies street.
Pallbearers will be six grand-sons, Dennis, Dallas, Daniel Jr., Glen and Lynn Doherty, and Fabe Finch.
Internment will be in Greenwood cemetery beside his wife, the former Matilda Chapman, who preceded him in death nine years ago.
Lindsey Glen Doherty was a native of Canada, having been born at Streetsville, on June 1, 1858. When a child of eight years, he moved with his parents to Lawrence, Kansas, where later, in 1879, he was married to Miss Matilda Chapman.
The deceased was well known throughout Southwest Louisiana where he has been active in business for over 35 years. He first became interested in this section through shipping horses and mules from the mid-western states. In 1903 he brought his family to Jennings, settling on a farm south of town where he engaged in farming, later returning to town where he again sold livestock, and conducted a livery stable, prior to the days of automobiles.
For the past ten years Mr. Doherty had been engaged in the poultry and produce business.
Surviving are his five sons, Dan of Jennings, Guy of Elton, George G., Glen Jr., and W. E. of Vivian, three daughters, Mrs. Glen Lang of Vivian, Mrs. Ruth Wales, Vivian, Mrs. Ed Dyess [Mabel], Corpus Christi, Texas, and twelve grand-children.
