RUSHVILLE — Velma Shockley, 97, a longtime Rush County resident, passed away on Monday, July 16, 2012 in Rushville, IN. She was born in Jennings County, IN on October 16, 1914 to the late C. Everett Ralstin and Lavinia (Hanshew) Ralstin. She married John Harold Shockley on October 19, 1946. John passed away January 17, 2003. Velma was a candy maker and cook at the Durbin Hotel in the 1960s and had been a member of the Primitive Baptist Church. She was a member of the OES of Andersonville and was a Boy Scout assistant.
Velma is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Jim) Darnell, of Rushville, 3 brothers, Philip (Nora) Ralstin, of Rushville, Keith Ralstin of Rushville, Paul (Betty) Ralstin, of Tennessee, 2 sisters, Josephine Taylor of Rushville, and Mary Bell of Atlanta, GA, a grandson, Robert (Julie) Cramer of Rushville, 6 great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Megan, Zackary and Lilly Cramer, Adam Ripberger, Casey Ralstin, step great-grand daughter, Haley Hart and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 6 brothers, a sister and a son, John Howard in 2004.
Services for Velma will be held at 10 AM Thursday July 19, 2012, at Moster Mortuary, Rushville, with Elder Mike Chastain presiding. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Wednesday. Burial will be in the East Hill Cemetery following the service.
Memorial contributions may be to the RN Club thru RCCF, Varsity Scholars thru RCHS or donor's choice.

She was the great-granddaughter of Christian Smith Ralston (1814)and Sarah Ann Martin Ralston (1813-1901)of Ripley County, Indiana.
She was also the great-granddaughter of Joseph Ralston (1793-1869) and Eleanor Smith Ralston (1793-1869) of Brown County, Ohio.
She was the 2-great-granddaughter of James Martin and Nancy Martin of Ripley County, Indiana.
She was also the 2-great granddaughter of Christian Smith and Elizabeth McDuffy (or McDuffie) Smith of Brown County, Ohio.
