ELIJAH M. HALFORD

Elijah Marion Halford, son of J. M. B. and Rachel (Craig) Halford, was born September 26, 1878 in Fayette County, Illinois, and departed this life suddenly February 15, 1945 at 12:15 p.m. at the Woodstock hospital, Woodstock, Ill.

He was united in marriage to Sarah Dodson on October 4, 1899. To this union were born four children namely, Mrs. Freeda Hastings, Harvel; Kenneth Halford, Bingham; Mrs. Mildred Neece, Greenville; Kermit Halford, Janesville, Wis., who with their mother survive him.

He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Jeannette Cole, Greenville, and one brother, Homer S. Halford, of Woodstock. Preceding him in death were seven brothers, Addkison, Huston, Vincent, John, William, Jimmy and his twin brother, Elisha, and three sisters, namely, Mrs. Martha Dilbeck, Mrs. Sarah Sanders and Mary.

He was converted at an early age and united with the Free Methodist church, with membership at Halford Chapel, to which he remained a faithful member throughout life.

He spent the greater part of his life on his farm in northern Fayette county, and for the last 4 ½ years he had been manager of the Old Peoples Rest Home at Woodstock, Ill., which in his own words were among the happiest years of his life. He will be greatly missed by the residents of the Home all of which loved him dearly.

Short services were conducted at the Home in Woodstock Friday morning by Mr. H. C. Gensch, Supt. of the Homes.

Relatives and friends from out-of-town were Mr. and Mrs. Edward Halford and Esther Hoffman, Vandalia; Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Toberman and family, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hopwood, Fillmore; Mr. and Mrs. Loy Smith and Mrs. Lottie Smith, Centralia; Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Halford, Sorento; Mr. and Mrs. Loren Halford, Rockford; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Halford and Earl and Glen, Mr. Henry Cook, Verna Morell, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Casey, Bingham; Mrs. Minnie Starck, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Glover and Mrs. Helen Couch, Harvel; Mrs. Roy Anderson, Hinckley; Miss Fredrica Spears, Waterman; Mrs. And Mrs. Kermit Halford, Janesville, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Homer S. Halford of Woodstock; Dr. and Mrs. H. M. Hastings of Harvel.

The services were conducted by Rev. W. D. Cochrane assisted by the pastor of the church, Rev. john H. Whiteman, also Rev. Mayhew and Mrs. Gensch. Burial in Mt. Auburn cemetery in Greenville.
