A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, June 30, 2012, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby at 11 AM. Father Daniel Hackel presided. A visitation was held Friday, June 29, 2012, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby from 4 to 8 PM with a Rosary at 4 PM. A visitation was held Saturday from 10 AM until the time of service at the church. Burial followed the service at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Colby.
Marilyn was born May 1, 1935, to James and Ida (Vanderwegan) Devine in Owen. She was a graduate of Withee High School and went to cosmetology school in Eau Claire. Marilyn and Daniel Brey were united in marriage April 11, 1955, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Owen. Marilyn and Dan raised eight children on their farm outside of Colby. Marilyn held various jobs throughout life including working at Thorp Finance, M&I Bank, Marshfield Research, she was a Realtor with Century 21, and most recent she was the Parish secretary for St. Mary's Parish in Colby until her retirement.
Marilyn was an active member of St. Mary's Parish in Colby, including the PCCW/Christian Mothers and adult choir. She was a member of the Palm Sunday Choir in Marshfield, and 4-H leader. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading, crossword and Sudoku puzzles, and singing. Most of all she enjoyed visiting with friends and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Dan; her children, Deborah Brey of Colby, Diane Brey of Appleton, Sally (Robert) Crane of Stevens Point, Michael Brey of Marshfield, Gary Brey of Appleton, Doreen (David) Hebert of Spencer, Kathleen (Joseph) Conley of Marshfield, and Judine Brey of Eau Claire. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Joshua, Amy, and Nicholas Crane, Kevin and Kelly Brey, Daniel, Marie, and Steven Hebert, and Anthony and Theodore Conley; and her brothers and sisters, Theresa (Joseph) Pawlak, Janice (Lyle) Johnson, Kathleen (Jack) Parker, and Robert, Herbert, Thomas, and Theodore Devine.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers, William, Peter David, Daniel, Patrick, and Michael Devine.
