She was the first child born to Hugh Evermond Yarnell and Maud Sholatte Harris Yarnell Freeman. She married Tom Upshaw, son of George Roane Upshaw and Delphia Catherine Blair Upshaw in Deming, NM on July 15th 1915. They had a daughter born in 1916, Adell, a son born in 1917, Willie Lee, a son born in 1919, Joseph Hugh, a daughter born In 1922, Ida Ola, and a son born in 1928, Bert James. She had a sister Hughaleen Yarnell Norris, who passed away in 1982 in Marietta, Georgia, (and is buried in Boulder City, Nevada) living there with her daughter Mary Lou Norris Milner, and her son-in-law Wayne Milner.
