Mrs. Edith Baker
Mrs. Edith Bell Baker, 88, Burlingame, died Saturday in a Topeka hospital where she had been a patient since Sept. 30. She had been in nursing homes the past three years.
She was born June 23, 1889, in Topeka where she spent most of her life. She lived in the Meriden community from 1925 to 1940. She formerly lived at 1505 Campbell in Topeka.
Mrs. Baker was a licensed practical nurse and had worked at Stormont-Vail, St. Francis, and Memorial hospitals in Topeka.
She was a member of Topeka Bible church and had taught child evangelism classes in Topeka.
She was married to Herbert Teft Baker May 11, 1907, in Topeka. He died Jan. 25, 1966. She also was preceded in death by a son, Herbert T. Baker, and by daughters, Altha Elaine Baker and Mrs. Virginia Bruce.
Survivors include two sons, Harold T. Baker, Boise, Idaho, and Lawrence O. Baker, Route 2, Burlingame; four daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Chacey, Overland Park, Mrs. Margaret Riddle, Route 1, Burlingame, Mrs. Betty DeWitt, 616 E. 34th, and Mrs. June Thorp, Olathe; 21 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Davidson-Duff Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Baker will lie in state after 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
