Herbert Baker, Topekan, Dead

Herbert Teft Baker, 78, was dead on arrival at a Topeka hospital Tuesday after becoming ill at his home, 136 N. Quinton.
Dr. J.L. Lattimore, district coroner, said Tuesday night he will perform an autopsy today to determine cause of death.

Mr. Baker was born Jan. 26, 1887 at Pauline and spent most of his life in Topeka except for 15 years when he lived at Meriden. He worked at the Topeka Supply Depot and later was a tree surgeon until he retired.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Edith Bell Baker, at home; two sons, Harold T. Baker, Nampa, Idsho, and Lawrence O. Baker, 1643 Western; five daughters, Mrs. Howard Chacey, Shawnee-Mission, Mrs. Harold C. Riddle, 1043 Forest, Mrs. Charles E. Bruce, 814 E. 34th, Mrs. Donald DeWitt, 616 E. 34th, and Mrs. Charles Thorp, 739 Garfield; two sisters, Mrs. Cora Taylor, 227 Clay, and Mrs. Edna Arnold, 2419 W. 22nd; 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
