He was born in Elizabeth, Wirt County, son of Laura Copen of Elizabeth and the late Charles Copen. He was an emploee of Manville Corp. in Vienna for over 26 years before retiring in 1980, a member of the Manville Quarter Century Club and a World War II veteran.
He is also survived by his wife, Ireta; a son, David, of Marietta; two daughters, Diane Brown of Marietta and Joyce Rea of Delaware, Ohio; two brothers, Harold of Kent, Ohio, and Vernon of Parkersburg; two sisters, Elsie Flinn of Elizabeth and Helen Pifer of Marietta; three granddaughters and three step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Muriel.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at McClure-Schafer Funeral Home, Marietta, the Rev. Ronald Williams officiating, with burial in Bethel Cemetery on Elizabeth Hill in Wirt County.
