He was born Jan. 27, 1893, in the Town of Maple Grove, son of the late Herman and Mathilda Berkholtz Maertz. On Dec. 39 (sic), 1915, he married the former Elma Olp of Reedsville and they farmed in the Town of Maple Grove. He was health officer of the Town of Maple Grove for the past 11 years and held the office until his death.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Mrs. Walter Peipenburg of Rt. 1, Reedsville; three sisters, Mrs. Ida Fokeet, Mrs. Ernest Siebert and Mrs. John Treichel of Reedsville; four brothers, Albert, Louis and Ervin of Rt. 1, Reedsville, and Leonard of Rt. 2, Reedsville, and three grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Reedsville Funeral Home after 9:30 a.m. Sunday, at 10:30 a.m. Monday when the body will be moved to the church to lie in state until the time of service.
