Ruth Maurine Nelson Miller, 90, passed away peacefully in her home Friday, June 8, 2012.
She was born Dec. 4, 1921, to John A. and Vera Wilcox Nelson in Cardston, Alberta, Canada. The family later moved to Great Falls, Mont., where she completed her schooling. She grew up in a large family and even though there were many hardships, they enjoyed country life in Montana. Ruth was introduced to her sweetheart, Ivan Miller, through a mutual friend and they were sealed in the Logan LDS Temple on Jan. 29, 1941. It has been the love story of a lifetime, sharing many memorable experiences for 71 years together.
Ruth has been a faithful and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many ward and stake callings. She loved living in Hyrum, enjoying her association with friends and neighbors. One of her cherished callings was serving with Ivan as Matron and President of the Logan temple, where she treasured the friendship of so many wonderful people. They also served in the London South Mission.
She was a skilled seamstress and loved entertaining family and friends. She worked diligently on family history, even traveling to Norway where she found many of her family names. Her treasures were her family, her friends, and her testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She was one of the noble and great, a choice daughter of our Heavenly Father.
Ruth is survived by her loving husband, Ivan; their six children, Marsha (Dennis) Thompson, Susan (Bob) Stockwell, Jeff (Bonnie) Miller, Steve (Joni) Miller, Rosemarie (Brad) Johnson and Jeanette (Mark) Petersen; and Ruth's brother, Robert Nelson. Ruth and Ivan have 31 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Lee, Bruce and Lovell; and sisters, Verda and Joyce.
Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, June 14, at the Hyrum North Stake Center, 245 N. 750 East, Hyrum, Utah. There will be a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center St., Logan, Utah, and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday before the funeral at the Stake Center. Interment will be in the Hyrum City Cemetery.
