She was born March 30, 1920 in Great Falls, Montana, to John Alexander and Vera Wilcox Nelson. She had four brothers and two sisters. She married Earl Thomas McMaster on June 5, 1948. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Cardston, Alberta Temple. They moved to Columbia Falls, Montana and raised seven children there.Joyce was well known for her fun nature and ability to make everyone around her feel good. She had a special gift of charity and would share her hugs and kisses with all. She loved music and was an accomplished pianist. She was an active member of the LDS Church, where she held many positions throughout the years. She dedicated her life to service. She was her husband's right hand man in his photography business and always could get a smile from everyone. Her love of people and her pure, simple faith, are her greatest accomplishments. Earl and Joyce lived in Kalispell, MT, for many years and enjoyed friends and family there. They attended the Kalispell 2nd Ward in the new LDS stake center. She suffered ill health for many years, but never complained. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Earl Thomas McMaster, American Fork; daughters, Beverly (Justin) Brink, Merced., CA; Patricia (Gary) Rowles, Arvada, CO; Debra (Michael) Parry, Mapleton, UT; Lori Seely, Arvada, CO; Mary (David) Phelps, Fruit Heights, UT; sons, William (Sandy) McMaster, Joseph City, AZ; and Robert McMaster, Provo, UT. 27 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth (Ivan) Miller, Hyrum, UT; Verda (Leon) Jensen, Draper, UT; brothers, Bruce (Ruth) Nelson, Bigfork, MT; Lee (Vicki) Nelson, Bigfork, MT; Robert (Missie) Nelson, Kalispell, MT. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, LaVell (Maggie).
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, January 22, 1999 at the Mapleton LDS Church, 1200 North 1000 West. A viewing for friends and family will be held Thursday night from 6-8 p.m. at the Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South, Springville, and again Friday morning, one hour preceding funeral. Burial will be at the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
