Margaret Elizabeth Phelps age 91, of Lapeer, MI. formerly of Mayville, MI., passed away Thursday, June 7, 2012 at Lapeer County Medical Care Facility. Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at the Avram Funeral Home, with Reverends Steve DeGangi and Robert McNutt officiating. The family will receive visitors 3-8 PM on Monday, June 11 at the Avram Funeral Home, and Tuesday, June 12 at 10 AM until time of service at Avram Funeral Home. Internment will be at Dayton Center Cemetery Memorials may be made to the Mayville Area Museum of History and Genoalogy. She is survived by four sons and five daughters, Kenneth (Lynn) Phelps of Brighton, MI., Marie (Kenneth) Jansen of Mayville, MI., Lyle (Katherine) Phelps of Duncan, OK., Donald (Mary Jo) Phelps of Port Charlotte, Fla, Diane Phelps of Columbiaville, MI., Arlene (Rev Robert) McNutt of Troy IL., Brian (Drenda) Phelps of Kingston, MI., Luellen Phelps and husband, Rev Steve DeGangi of Peterson, IA., Ruth (Rodney) Rushlow of Deford, MI., one daughter-in-law: Pam Phelps of Oxford, MI., 24 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, two sisters-in-law; Margaret Kohler and Ellen Ann Kohler, several nieces and nephews. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, One daughter and son-in-law, Yalon and Larry Burda, one son, Paul Phelps, 13 brothers and sisters. She was born December 24, 1920 in North Branch, MI. to George and Margaret (Scharf) Kohler. She married Lawrence Phelps in North Branch, MI. on June 29, 1940. Margaret moved from Rochester, MI. to the Phelps Farm in Kingston, MI. in 1955, then moved to Lapeer, MI. on October 5, 1991. She attended Dayton Center Church, was a member of the Dayton Center Ladies Aid, and a lifetime member of Mayville Area Museum of History and Genealogy. Margaret enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing the piano and organ. She also enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, and canning. While at Suncrest she took part in the Bingo games, as well as arranging flowers and helping others.
