Thelma K. Ramsay, 87, of Oxford, died on Saturday, April 17, 1993, in the Southern Chester County Medical Center, Jennersville, following a lengthy illness.

She was the widow of John H. Ramsay, Sr.

Born in Lebanon, she was a daughter of the late Walter T. and Lucy Bowers Kreiser.

She was a graduate of Albright College, Reading, where she earned degrees in romance languages, English and music.

She accepted a teaching position at Oxford High School in 1928 and lived in the Oxford Area for the rest of her life, where she owned a dairy farm with her husband.

She taught music in one-room schools in the Oxford School District.

She also taught in the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District and taught Latin in the Avon Grove School District for 13 years, where she served as chairwoman of the language arts department until her retirement in 1974.

During these years, music was a very important part of her life. She served as choir director and/or pianist/pipe organist for many southern Chester County churches, including Oxford United Methodist and Little Britain Presbyterian.

She served as treasurer of the Lower Oxford Township School Board for 19 years, during consolidation of the Oxford School District.

She also served on the Oxford Area School District board during the construction of all the school buildings in the 1950's.

She was a member and past president of the Oxford Research Club and a past worthy matron of Russellville Grange Patrons of Husbandry no. 91.

She was also a member of the Oxford Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by two sons, John H. Ramsay, Jr. of Peach Bottom and Walter A. Ramsay of Oxford; a daughter, Sally R. Fine of Sarasota, Fla; two sisters, Mary Ruth Mills of Annville and Sarah Jane Harris of Philadelphia; a brother, Frederick b. Kreiser of Salisbury, Md; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21, at the Johnston-Ruffenach Funeral Home, 224 Penn Ave., Oxford.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Oxford Cemetery.
