Mr. Payne was born in Boone County on Nov. 7, 1890, the son of Christopher and Lucinda Stowers Payne.
He attended the Kirklin Church of God.
His wife, Mrs. Marie Hubbartt Payne, died in 1959. They were married in 1915.
He is survived by three sons, Robert Eugene, James and Carl Payne, Jr., all of Kirklin; one daughter, Mrs. Audrey K. Snell of Kirklin; three sisters, Mrs. Nora Pittenger, Mrs. Cora McDonald and Mrs. Elizabeth Priest, all of Kirklin;
two brothers, Paul and William, both of Kirklin, and 10 grandchildren.
A brother and two sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Pence Funeral Home at Kirklin with Rev. E.M. McGehee officiating, and burial will be made in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Kirklin

It was announced that friends may call at the funeral home after 6 o'clock this evening.
