Here is Sarah's obituary:
Clinton Republican, Nov. 17, 1921
MRS. BERT GARDNER
Mrs. Sarah E. Gardner died suddenly at her home, west of Union Home, Friday evening. The cause of her death was heart trouble.
Sarah E. Grubaugh was born in this vicinity, February 13, 1872, and was united in marriage with Albert Gardner, January 12, 1889 and with the exception of a few years has spent most of her life here. To this union four children were born, Mrs. Celenda B. Radford, of Lansing, Galusha E. of Greenbush, and Charles and Beatrice at home. Besides her husband and children she leaves to mourn their loss, one grandchild, seven sisters and two brothers, and also a great many relatives and friends.
Deceased was a kind and loving mother and loved by all who knew her. She was a faithful member of the East Essex Red Cross, having at one time been president of that organization; she was a member of the Union Home Cemetery association, having also been vice-president of that organization. The many beautiful floral offerings spoke of the high esteem in which Mrs. Gardner was held by her friends.
Funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon; interment was mad in the Union Home cemetery.
