In 1940 Dess married Wilford "Mope" Beach and they had a daughter, Sandra "Susie" Lee Beach who was born on 13 Oct 1941. "Mope" got his nickname because it took him so long to get ready.
Dess was known for her great sense of humor and inviting home; everyone was welcome. She always seemed to have a cigarette in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other. She worked hard clearing the property the house was built on and would set Susie outside in a playpen while she cut down trees and cleared the front of the lot.
She was a good cook and her hobby was crocheting.
