William D. Van Ornam was born at Buffalo, New York, January 18, 1841 and died April 23, 1924, age 83 years 3 mos, and 5 days. He was married to Jennett E. Bennett on July 22nd 1862 at Davenport, Iowa. To this union were born five girls and four boys; the wife, two daughters Annis F. and Mrs. Mary F. Guy and one son preceding him in death. Those surviving him are two brothers, Mr. E. L. Van Ornam and L. B. Van Ornam of Superior, Nebraska and his children, Mr. R. L. Van Ornam of Hardy, Nebraska, Mrs. Maud Kean, Kansas City, Missouri, Mrs. E. M. Dodd, Biglow, Kansas, Mr. Albert L. Van Ornam, Bostwick, Nebraska, Mr. Guy D. Van Ornam, Superior, Nebraska and Mrs. Lillie M. Heer, Superior, Nebraska, 34 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. In 1893 he became a member of the Christian Church at Olive Hill and died trusting in his Savior. He was one of the early settlers, coming to Jewell County in 1873. Funeral services at the home of R. L. Van Ornam's April 24th conducted by Rev. John Thomas. Interment at Olive Hill cemetery, Kansas.

The funeral of Grandpa Van Ornam was held at the Roy Van Ornam Home Thursday afternoon, and interment was made in Olive Hill cemetery north west of Webber.
