OBITUARY: SUPERIOR EXPRESS, SUPERIOR, NEBRASKA - THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 1937 - ROY L. VAN ORNAM OF HARDY IS DEAD
Roy Leighton Van Ornam was born October 28, 1869, at Davenport, Iowa and entered eternal rest February 5, 1937, at 2:30 a.m. at the age of 67 years, 3 mos, and 8 days. In 1873 he came to Jewell County, Kansas where he spent his childhood and received his education. At the age of 21 he united with the Christian Church at Olive Hill. On March 1, 1891 he was united in marriage to Ellen M. Forrey at Mankato, Kansas and to this union were born seven daughters and two sons, all of whom are still living. After his marriage he lived in Nemaha County, Kansas for two years and in Cheyenne County for six years, then moved to south of Hardy. Eleven years ago they moved to town. He has been a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge for about 30 years. Left to mourn his loss are his widow, nine children, Mrs. Herman Berk, Santa Ana, Calif.; Donald Van Ornam Hardy, Nebr.; Mrs. F. Goodrich, Belleville, Kansas; Mrs. Harold Davidson and Mrs. Harvey Clark, Superior, Nebraska; Louis Van Ornam, Ontario, Calif.; Ida Van Ornam, Salt Lake City, Utah; Mrs. Morgan Powell, Saratoga, Wyoming; and Mrs. Robert Hall of Hastings, Nebr.; 23 grandchildren, one brother and three sisters. Two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. He will also be remembered by a host of friends.
