James Dayton Amdor, son of Edward R. and Sarah F. Amdor, was born November 14, 1880 on a farm north of Carbon, Iowa, and died suddenly of a heart attack at his home in Massena, Iowa on March 22, 1962 at the age of 81 years, four months and eight days.

He married Sarah Cochrane at the Reno Catholic church on November 26, 1903, and they started housekeeping on a farm north of Carbon. They lived in Adams county for eight years, later purchasing a farm in Cass county, where they resided for 51 years. They recently moved to their present home in Massena.

Besides his wife he is survived by eight children, Mrs. Gene (Velma) Sullivan of Oskaloosa, Miss Lulu Amdor and Mrs. Dorothy Parker of Arlington Heights, Illinois, Mrs. Maurice (Sally) Checoine of Des Moines, Mrs. Paul (Rita) Thompsen of Oakland, California, J. E. Amdor, Don Amdor, and Gene Amdor of Massena; 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren. One son, Frank, met death in an auto accident in 1941.

Mr. Amdor was a member of a family of 12 children, six of whom are living. They are Mrs. Louella McKee Alpaugh of Woodland, California, Mrs. ___ Leipert of Corning, Mrs. Lillie Karthay? of Great Falls, Montana, Mrs. Eulalia Short of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Mrs. Bertha Harstock of Libby, Montana, and B. H. Amdor of Corning. Deceased members of the family are C. E. Amdor, Mrs. Sophronia Billingsley, Mrs. Christina Bruce, and infants, Augustus Eugene and Eunice.

Requiem High Mass was held March 26 at St. Patrick church in Massena with Rev. Father Anthony Palmer officiating. Music was by the St. Patrick choir. Mrs. Gene Amdor and Mrs. Alice Anstey. Altar servers were James Stakey, Robert Langfelt, Raymond Waters, and John McLaren. In charge of flowers were Mr. and Mrs. Leon Jensen.

Pallbearers were Harold Mills, Alfred Hogan, Lewis Curry, Varel McMartin, Kenneth Jensen and Woodrow Brentnall. Interment was in Mt. Calvary cemetery.

Many friends and relatives from Omaha, Nebraska, Oskaloosa, Marshalltown, Des Moines, Villisca, Nodaway, and Corning attended the services showing the high esteem in which the deceased was held in the community.
