Philip J. Depperschmidt, son of John H. and Agnes (Kreutzer) Depperschmidt, was born Jan. 12, 1901, at Liebenthal, Kans. He died Sept. 18, 1977, at the age of 76, at the home of his daughter, Aileen Flipse, Arvada, Colo., after a short illness.

Jan. 24, 1922, he was united in marriage to Katherine Leiker at Park, Kans. To this union nine children, three sons and six daughters, were born.

He was preceded in death by his wife who died July 28, 1971, and a daughter, Lillian Walker, who died July 30, 1977. Two grandchildren, Gregory Joe Albers and Rhonda Flipse, his parents, one brother and two sisters also preceded him in death.

He is survived by his children, Edwin, Mrs. Roxie (Bernadine) Pomarico, Mrs. J. E. (Alvera) Jackson, Mrs. George (Joan) Albers, Ronald, Mrs. David (Aileen) Flipse, Leroy and Mrs. Leonard (Judith) Nelke. All of the children reside in or around Denver except Joan whose home is in Colby. Other survivors include five sons-in-law, two daughters-in-law, forty-two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by four brothers, Seraphine, Dresden; Paul, Park; Gus, Oakley; and Henry, Garden City. Six sisters, Mrs. Rosa Zimmerman, Quinter; Mrs. Martha Zerr, Colorado Springs; Mrs. Katie Goetz, Dodge City; Mrs. Betty Kaiser, Mrs. Cleo Fitzgerald and Mrs. Bertha Owens, Denver.

Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's church, Oakley on Thursday morning Sept. 22 at 10:30 a.m. The mass of resurrection was concelebrated by the Revs. Maurice Ptacek and William Surmeier.

Interment was in St. Joseph's cemetery with the Koster Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Depperschmidt was active in business as a barber in Oakley until July 22 when he was hospitalized in St. Thomas hospital in Colby.

A Cancer Research Memorial Fund has been established at the Farmer's State Bank in Oakley.
